Deactivate event pages (URL link tracking)

Ingo Updated by Ingo

In this article, we will give you an overview of the accessibility and indexing of registration pages and how you can deactivate them if necessary.

A basic distinction must be made here between the findability and accessibility of the pages.

1. Findability

Google records a website as soon as the URL link can be found publicly.

The URL link is not automatically declared as public by Sweap. This requires one of the following actions by you:

  • If the URL link is published on a separate event overview page and Google is allowed to crawl this page.
  • For example, if the URL link is shared on a website or in a social media post by the user.
  • If a guest distributes the URL link on the Internet and Google finds the content.
If none of these or similar actions are used to distribute the URL link, the website will not be found by Google. You can find more information here.
The event status has no influence on the findability of the URL link. This is controlled exclusively by the publication of the URL link

As this indexing remains in place by Google even after the event in Sweap has expired, the link can still be found via Google.

By deactivating the URL link via the registration settings, an error message ‘Page no longer exists’ is generated for this URL, which leads to the indexing being removed by Google.

Sweap itself has no direct influence on either the indexing or the deactivation of URL links. To ensure that deactivation takes place as quickly as possible, you would need to request this directly from Google.

2. Accessibility

The accessibility of the link in Sweap is linked to the registration settings in the event. As long as a registration page is activated as ‘Open registration’, the page can be accessed.

If the setting is changed to ‘Invitation by e-mail only’, the user is automatically redirected to a Sweap page including an error message that this page no longer exists.
