Use single sign-on

Julia Walther Updated by Julia Walther

Single sign-on (SSO) is a procedure with which a user logs in once and can then access several applications or services without having to log in again.

How does SSO work?

  1. The user logs in once with their access data (e.g. username & password) to a central SSO service.
  2. Authentication by the SSO service
The SSO service checks the access data and confirms that the user is authorized.
  3. Access to various applications
If the user wants to use another application, this asks the SSO service for confirmation.
✅ If the user is already logged in, the SSO service passes on a permission (e.g. a token or a session ID).
❌ If not, the user will be asked to log in again.
  4. Seamless use
The user can now navigate between different services without having to log in every time.
The e-mail address you use for your Sweap user must be the same as the e-mail address used for your SSO service.

SSO in Sweap

Below we explain how single sing-on works in Sweap. We will show you how to create a new user and how to convert existing users into “single sing-on users”.

Technical setup

Once you have commissioned SSO, we will take care of the technical setup. You will then receive a login URL created especially for you. You can use this to log in to your Sweap account from now on.

User handling

1. Convert existing users

Existing users in your Sweap account must be converted so that they can log in with SSO.

To convert existing users, call up the “Users & rights” area via “Account settings”.

Select the users to be converted in the list and select “Change to single sign-on” via “Actions”.

In the next step, a pop-up opens in which you confirm your change using the checkbox. Click on “Change user” to complete the conversion.

Users who are converted must be informed about this step, as the regular login can no longer be used after the conversion. From this moment on, you can only log in via your login URL.
2. Create new users

To create new users, call up the “Users & rights” area via “Account settings”.

Now click on “Create user”. By default, the option “Single sign-on” is activated here, which is used to create an SSO user. Now enter all the necessary data and then click on “Create”.

You can of course still create a user at this point who is not an SSO user; the “Username and password” option can be used for this.
